Ler Ler Restaurant (乐乐茶餐室) @ Taman Kasturi, Off Jalan Balakong (Ceased Operation)

It’s mom’s birthday so we’ve made arrangement to give her a treat. We asked her where she would like dinner to be and she mentioned  Hen Key without much thought. She simply loved the fried fish head there. Since the venue has been decided, I called to make reservation for a table and at the same time do a pre-book on their best selling New Zealand fried fish head. (龄鱼头) I was lucky to have made that called coz they’ve moved from the previous location to Balakong town which is right at the back of the Proton showroom.

Hen Key even changed its name to Ler Ler which is operating at a larger premise.

Mr. Yap the chef cum owner greeted me upon arrival to this clean and spacious restaurant. As it was still early, we were once again their 1st group of customer to arrive.

Boiled Corn Soup (滚粟米湯) The sweetness of the corns brought out the aroma of this soup. This was on the house.

Steamed Fish Head (清蒸松鱼头) @ RM 9.90 ~ This steamed “Song” fish head is on promotion and it’s really a steal! So fresh, so tasty and so good!

Claypot Pork Belly with Salted Fish (咸鱼花腩煲) @ RM 18.00 ~ Still piping hot when served. The aroma of the salted fish is truly enticing. Meat is carefully cooked, juicy and succulent.

Signature Stir-Fry Fish Head (炒鱼头) @ RM 40.00 ~ This signature dish is mainly cooked using New Zealand fish head (龄鱼头) which is not readily available and often snapped up by bigger scale restaurants the minute the shipment arrives. Today is the same, shortage was the answer. Feeling a little disappointed I went for the garoupa instead as mom loves the way this dish is prepared. The crispy skin and the meat absorbs all the flavorful gravy from the dried chilies and onions. Ocras are just as nice.

Spinach in Special Broth  (上汤菠菜) @ RM 12.00 ~ The preparation is slightly different from the ones I normally had. A raw egg was cracked on it before served. Tasted quite cool alright. Spinach is young and broth is sweet. Too bad my favorite century egg was missing!

Steamed Herbal Chicken (蒸药材鸡) @ RM 23.00 ~ Kampung chicken is used in steaming this dish. Meat is pretty tough as expected coz that’s how the texture is with this kinda chick! Gravy or soup if you like it to be is oily but tasted good!

Beancurd with Minced Meat (肉碎豆腐) @ RM 15.00 ~ This was really mediocre. Just like eating “wat tan hor” (滑蛋河) but with bean curds instead of the flat rice noodle.

Hilton’s Red bean paste mooncake (紅豆沙月餅) @ RM 18.00 ~ This was not from the menu but Cat brought it along for reasons known only to herself. Could it be contingency just in case I forgotten to get mom a birthday cake? Moon cake as a stand in? Refreshing idea! Quite nice a mooncake!

Tropical fruit cake @ RM 33.00 ~ I got mom this 6″ birthday cake from RT Pastry House in Taman Danau Desa. Soft and moist, not sweet but seriously creamy! Didn’t quite like outer ring which tasted like bread. Albeit to all that, the fruits were fresh and definitely not overly priced. Step aside to Cat’s mooncake!

For only RM 137.40 inclusive of rice and a pot of hot Chinese tea, everyone had an enjoyable meal, mostly mom! Glad she had a good time! Happy B’day mom (kisses) and most certainly I’ll bring you back for more!
