Restoran Jit Yat Sing (日夜兴酒家) @ Banting, Klang

Since it’s still holiday and we thought of being a little adventurous, we decided to travel a little further to savour some good food in Klang. In fact, Cat has been pastering me for a good few days to go with her to visit this Jit Yat Sang Restaurant which is located in Banting. It took us almost 90 minutes to reach our destination and it’s certainly been such a long while I drove this far for dinner. Let’s hope it’s worth the drive.

Operating at a corner unit JYS can afford to have additional table settings by the road for diners who prefer some coolness while savoring their food.

Typical coffee shop setup with a decent hygiene standard.

We were served with this plate of peanuts while waiting for our order to arrive. For RM 2.00, it’ll keep your mouth busy!

Signature Deep Fried Red Snapper (油浸红鲷鱼) @ RM 41.00 ~ This dish is  worth every penny for its freshness and the “special” sauce is indeed special and paired really well with my rice. Would recommend this anytime!

Signature Rambutan Prawn (黄金毛丹蝦) @ RM 42.00 ~ Fresh mid sized prawns all cased up ala rambutan with an ensemble of sliced yam, onion, carrot, spring onion, red chili is then deep fried to golden brown.  The crisp from all the mixtures of ingredients and the succulence from the prawn really give this a good bite. Apart from that, this dish is nothing more than a plate of finger food and certainly did not blow me off my socks. For that price, I’ve would have ordered another steamed fish!

Signature Chicken & Fish Combo (天上飛海底游) @ RM 59.00This dish is popularly known amongst the regulars as 天上飛海底游. A very catchy name I thought. The preparation requires a lotsa skills and patience. Chicken is stripped off its skin and  layered with salted egg yolk, fish paste, minced chicken, almond and straight to the boiling oil for deep frying. Another finger food nonetheless but worthy a try.

The 天上飛海低澡 after I have it “declassified”. A perfect harmony with all the ingredients tucked under the crispy chicken skin.

Spinach in Special Broth (上汤菠菜) @ RM 14.00Spinach is so young and fresh and the broth is sweet with minimum presence of MSG. The century eggs…a bliss!

Fish ball Soup (西剑鱼丸汤) @ RM 7.00 ~ Fish balls are bouncy as they are from Tanjung Sepat which is well known for its 西剑鱼丸.

Claypot Bean curd (煲仔豆腐) @ RM 17.00 ~ Japanese bean curd used and tasted ordinary. Serving is generous though.

Dipping sauce for the next dish… crab! You must be kidding me I thought! The sauce tasted like those that comes with steamed chicken rice! I did not use any and neither of us did!

Signature Honey Grill Crab (蜜汁烧螃蟹) @ RM 76.00 (9pcs/1.9kg)The crab is taken apart, grilled and put back together before serving. The whole exercise is to make sure the honey and Marmite marinade imparts well into he crab. It was tasty and the crabs were fresh but my only gripe was, my tongue starts to feel the numb after awhile. It must be the effects from the notorious Marmite!

The entire meal came out to RM 277.30 inclusive of 10 plain white rice and a pot of Liu Bao Chinese tea. Expensive? Well, it all depends of which angle you are looking at. If you are looking at having a meal that fills every inch of your tummy with the dishes I ordered, then you might feel a little disappointed, but if you are looking at trying something different (based on the way the food is prepared), well, it’s all worth! Will I come again..?? Only if I’m around the neighborhood coz it’s quite a drive! An enjoyable meal nonetheless! Do remember to make reservation or pre-order your food to avoid waiting.
