Ocean Batu Maung Seafood Restaurant (巴都茅海鲜村) @ Bayan Lepas, Penang

Seafood is something that mostly everyone savours, but to get some fresh, appetizing and reasonable ones is always a difficult task. Tonight, we made our plans and suggested to some local Penangite, Tai, Jamie and Two to check out this place. Being our maiden visit, all of us are keeping our fingers crossed and hopefully everything would turn out well!

Stir-Fry Romaine Lettuce (清炒油麦) @ RM 15.00 ~ This was specifically ordered for T & Lily as the latter is more of a vegetarian. She enjoyed every bite of it! Good but a little pricey! A 6/10!

Egg Foo Yoong (富勇蛋) @ RM 12.00 ~E wanted eggs for meals whenever possible therefore we got him this dish. Looks good but tasted bad. Very watery on the inside and definitely not to our liking! A 2/10!

Steamed Clams (kepah) (蒸酸辣拉拉) @ RM 18.00 ~ This was not only my favourite but mostly everyone on the table gave it a thumbs up! Haven’t tasted clams cooked this well for quite awhile. Not “rubbery” and the ingredients (chili padi & garlic) blends perfectly with it! Fantastic! A 10/10!

Signature Baked Garoupa (招牌生烤石斑) @ RM 85.00 I would say that this so called “signature” dish is mediocre but way overpriced! Nothing special except being served in a claypot and garnish with corriander, slices of onions and lime juice. Freshness of the garoupa is the saving grace! A 5/10!

Kam Heong Crab (金香螃蟹) @ RM 37.50 (2 crabs) ~ This style is mostly preferred by many but I would give it a miss whenever possible as it can get very salty after some bites! This was no different. Fresh and reasonably priced! A 6/10!

Salted Egg Yolk Crab (鹹蛋螃蟹) @ RM 37.50 (2 crabs) ~ This was the other variety of crab we ordered. The aroma from the generous coating of salted egg yolk and curry leaves makes it so tempting! Fresh and tasted wonderful! An 8/10!

Clean interior, fully air-conditioned and a very spacious outlet.

This treat from Jamie & Tai came out to RM 228.00 inclusive of eight (8) plain white rice and a pot of hot Chinese tea. Would say it’s pretty reasonable except for the “signature” baked fish and the Romaine lettuce. Service is commendable though. I would definitely return the next time I visit Penang to taste the Cheese Baked Oyster which  totally slipped of my mind! Once again, thanks guys for the warm hospitality and the awesome dinner!
