Restaurant Yap Chong (叶昭茶室) @ Pudu Ulu, Cheras

It has been awhile since I last set foot in this area for dinner. Ask any Hakka food lover and they’ll surely recommend Pudu ulu. Today I wanted to check out Yap Chong as I’ve tasted the other few along the road which serve pretty similar but good Hakka cuisines.

As you can see, there are 3 shop houses where Yap Chong occupies. Go to the far most unit (unit with yellow lightings) as that unit is the most spacious and newest amongst the rest. I was placed at the old unit. Crammed and smells mushy.  Must be the table clothes!

This unit accommodates 4 tables only! The good thing is, this is where to main kitchen is! See the “P Choong” sign? That’s the entrance to where the good foods are prepared! Right from the kitchen and straight to your table!

The adjoining unit is just as crammed. 4 tables the max!

Some newspaper cuttings boasting the history of this restaurant and their signature dishes.

The multi purpose corner which houses the cashier, utensils, the “hunting line”, lots of music cd’s of the 60′s.. anything the owner could possibly think of! Phew!

Clay pot lamb belly (羊腩煲) @ RM 12.00 ~ lamb is tender and the gravy is good. Wifey’s favorite!

Steamed tilapia in douchi (豆豉蒸金凤鱼) @ RM 22.40 ~ Fresh and the douchi infused a good aroma on the sauce.

Stir-fry Romaine lettuce (清炒油麦) @ RM 7.00 ~ Crunchy! T’s favorite!

Clay pot vinegar pig trotter (猪脚醋) @ RM 10.00 ~ Don’t normally order this dish but mom felt like having it. Meat is succulent and juicy. Good mouthfeel especially the fatty parts. Tasty and sourish! Tongue went numb after a few spoons of the gravy!!

Stuffed bean curd  (酿豆腐) ~ @ 0.80 cents/pc ~ Hakka specialty. This version does not come with soup but with thick gravy.

Totaled @ RM 65.80 inclusive of rice and a pot of chinese tea. Affordable place to dine but come early or call for reservation to avoid the queue!
