It’s Christmas day and after morning mass, we headed to one of our favorite coffee shop in SS3 to have our fix. This is one coffee shop we often visit whenever we are in PJ as they have lotsa good stuffs lining to be savored!
Hup Soon is a well known coffee shop amongst the residents who live around the area. This simple coffee shop has so much to offer and one of which is their western food which is only available from 4pm onwards daily. I’ve only tried once and it was rather good and reasonably priced. The crowd at night speaks for the food. Well, we weren’t here for its western food today but mostly for some other “good stuffs”!
It was not packed when we arrived, perhaps most people were away on holiday? We were able to get a table inside the coffee shop which was simple, clean and well, typical coffee shop la!
There’s another section near the stalls which I find a little hot but you don’t have much choice when the place is packed!
Fried rice (炒饭) @ RM 4.30 (s) ~ This is the “good stuff” that we always come back for. Fried rice! I know what you are thinking of. What is so special when you can do it at home, yes? You’ll agree with me that it’s different once you tried it. Fried à la char koay teow style with diced char siew, chopped scallions, prawns, egg and bean sprouts with good wok-hei imparted into the fluffy rice! One bite and you’ll be hooked for certain!
Fried rice with fried egg (炒饭加煎蛋）@ RM 4.70 (s) ~ I normally have mine with a fried egg, bullseye style. The spilled runny egg yolk over the fragrant rice once punctured is really yummy. The husband and wife team hardly have time to rest with the ever demanding orders on their simple yet delicious fried rice!
Yong Tau Foo (酿豆腐) @ RM 0.80/pc ~ This is yet another gem found in this coffee shop. The YTF’s are freshly prepared and fried before serving is surely a plus point. It’s hot and crispy to bite. The portions of the fish paste fillings were small though but what does one expect with this price? The chee cheong fun on the other hand is not the smoothest I’ve tried but good enough to fill the growling tummies with its sweet sauce, chili sauce, sesame seeds and fried onions. RM 1.60 for a small serving.
Pork noodle (猪肉粉) @ RM 4.00 ~ E had his favourite hor fun. Silky and smooth hor fun with generous sliced porks, meat balls and minced meat complemented well with the tasty broth and certainly the cheapest pork noodle we’ve come across in PJ.
Even though we did not have roast turkey but instead a simple and affordable meal in a simple coffee shop, it was good enough and filled with satisfaction! Apart from the food I’ve mentioned, they do have good Indian rice and tasty chicken rice too! Definitely a not to be missed when around the area. Till then.. Merry Xmas!

Hey.. one request for fried rice, one rendang and now one hinted pork belly. Guess I should quit my job and setup a Chinese buffet stall (economy rice) then all you lovelies can come and support me on a daily basis!

I went the other day after reading your blog to check out the fried rice and it was indeed tasty! Good recommendation and very CKT style indeed. Tried the Indian curry too. The Keling Kia woman a little LCLY one but the curry is good! No wonder she LCLY la! Happy New year bro!
