Sing Kee Kitchen (成記焼腊饭店) @ Taman Desa, Jalan Klang Lama

It’s another Sunday morning and we were headed to Taman Desa to do some chores. Since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to have our meal there as well. Our first thought was Sing Kee , a popular place for its bbq meat among the residents of Taman Desa.

This is our first time dining in the shop as the lunch crowd was overwhelming on our previous visit. Therefore, we set out earlier today and arrived just in time for brunch between 10-11am hoping to skip the busy lunch time.

Orders are taken once you are seated and only those who are doing the take-away are advised to stand in front of the stall.  We were lucky to get a table easily but at the same time a little early as their famous roast duck and the roast pork was not ready. We’ll have to hang on to our empty stomach for another 30-45mins if we were to wait for it. Feeling hungry, we settled for others which was already available, namely the poached chicken, soy sauce chicken, roast chicken and the char siew.

To accommodate more customers, SK took over the adjoining unit and had renovated it, complete with an air-conditioned section for extra comfort.

Roast chicken and bbq pork rice (叉鸡饭) @ RM 5.50 ~ Feeling rather disappointed upon learning that their roast duck and roast pork are only available after 11am, I’d to settle for this combo instead. I knew it won’t make my day the minute I placed the meat into my mouth. The BBQ pork was a little dry and not juicy enough with the missing fats and less aromatic without the charred bits. The roast chicken tasted ordinary without the crisp skin but the meat was pretty tender and succulent. Rice has good texture though.

BBQ pork wanton noodle (叉烧馄饨面) @ RM 5.00 ~ Wifey went for this and she gave me a distasteful stare when this plate of noodle arrived for her. Obviously the char siew (叉烧) was the cause. It looked dry and tasted just the same as mine. Meat was completely lean and the noodles weren’t springy and the sauce was just too little that it was completely stuck together when she tried to eat it! She didn’t hesitate to use the wonton soup to moist it a little.

Poached chicken rice (白切鸡饭) @ RM 5.50 ~ This wasn’t captivating enough to make the kids salivate. Maybe they’re too use to the ones at Seong Fatt which not only looks good but tastes great! This was a little bland and there’s not much flavor in the sauce. Good thing the chicken drumstick was juicy.

Sour chili dipping (酸辣椒酱) ~ This was interesting. Sourish with a tinge of spiciness in it. Very tempting after the first dip!

Even though this wasn’t a great brunch that we looked forward to but that wouldn’t dampen us from coming again as we’ve  yet to try out the famous roast duck and roast pork! Besides, they have a many others to offer (112 types of chu char dishes/煮炒) and one of them being the mustard leaves leftover soup (菜脚) which certainly warrant another visit.
