Nelson Fried Koay Teow (炒果條) @ Salak South Garden (Ceased Operation)

Much has been raved and said about the bbq pork rice (叉燒飯) and Yong Tau Fu (酿豆腐)
in Salak South garden but very seldom or maybe not at all has anyone mentioned anything about any fried koay teow that is worth to try. Is there really none? Nope! There is at least one which I’m gonna share with you guys today.

Nelson CKT has been operating here for decades. This stall is hardly conspicuous even though it’s located just adjacent to the famous Fatty Mok Yong Tau Fu. I was lucky to stumble upon it one day as I walked past. The aroma was so tempting that I just can’t resist having a plate. I was hooked and have been a regular ever since.

This is Nelson, the man who stirs and serves plates and plates of aromatic CKT everyday. Next to him is his wife who serves CKT and churns out glasses of sugar cane drinks from the nearby machine which belongs to Nelson too. Each costs RM 1.30.

Fried Koay Teow  (炒果條面 ) @ RM 4.20 ~ The mixed noodles are fried to good texture and has this elusive wok hei. (镬气) Bean sprouts, an egg, fish cakes and plenty of pork lards came with it. A piece of banana leaf lined the plate to bring out the extra fragrance of this tasty plate of CKT. Usage of prawns is not a common practice here and if you want to spice things up with some chilies, Nelson or his wife must be informed.

Fried Koay Teow  (炒果條面/大) @ RM 7.40/Large ~ The large version with an additional fried egg and cockles. I asked for additional pork lards as well just to give it the extra edge! My life just got shortened with those sinful stuffs! Damn! This plate will surely last me through dinner!

Am I wrong to say that Nelson’s is hardly noticeable, especially when there are cars parked right in front of it? Parking is a hassle during lunch but worry not as they are relocating at the end of this month to an open parking space right across Hong Leong Bank which is also in the same vicinity.
