Charcoal King Clay Pot Chicken Rice Restaurant (炭一炭瓦煲鸡饭店) @ Kuchai Lama

Since Guenther & Inge is leaving for home, we thought we bring them for dinner before sending them off to KLIA. By far we’ve brought them to taste quite a fair bit of our local delicacies. Things like BKT, steamboat, local chu char (煮炒) has already taken a good spot in their tummies and in their memories too I’m sure! Lastly, we thought of introducing something “out-of-the-world” to them and clay pot chicken rice fits the bill!

CKCCRR (炭一炭瓦煲鸡饭店) is located at Kuchai Lama, the same row with Maybank which is at the other corner. This used to be a very nice and tasty dim sum outlet, but has since closed. Pity! Parking is a headache here, especially during peak hours. i.e lunch/dinner. Be prepared to make rounds or walk!

I played host to this lovely couple.. Say hi to my German friends residing in the land down under.. Guenther & Inge!

Salted Fish (咸鱼) @ RM 1.00 ~ Came separately with the clay pot chicken rice. I personally liked it to go with my rice but I wonder if my friends shared the same sentiment. The smell can be unbearable to many, especially the westerners! Had 2 plates and one is for them! Hope they like it!

Choices of double boiled soups (炖汤) are plentiful and it’s all displayed on the interior wall. Outlet is clean and air-conditioned. Smoker’s fret not as there’s an open space catered for them to puff their lungs away!

Stir-fry Kai Lan (清炒芥兰/大) @ RM 12.00 (L) ~ Vege is young, stems are crunchy and the leaves are ladened with the tasty gravy full of wok-hei.

Claypot Chicken Rice (煲仔鸡饭/大) @ RM 14.00 (L) ~ Texture of rice is moist and imparted with full aroma from the well marinated chicken and the slices of Chinese sausages (中国蜡肠) cooked using charcoal. Scallions brings out the full flavor! All of us gave a thumbs up!

Claypot Braised Pork Rice (瓦煲相肉饭/小 @ RM 8.00/small ~ We weren’t sure if this is good as this is also our 1st time trying, therefore we only ordered a small pot. Cooked the same way except by using pork marinated with five spice powder (五香粉). The aroma of the spice is too overwhelming to my liking but the meat is tender and juicy. Only for those who don’t mind the strong aroma, otherwise stick to the chicken!

Volcano Bean curd (火山豆腐) @ RM 6.00 ~ Smooth and silky bean curd with crispy dried shrimp, fried onions and scallion as toppings. The oyster sauce gravy paired well with it.

I’m sure the both of my friends had a good time trying out these “new to them” dishes! The smiles on their faces showed! Guenther must have enjoyed the salted fish too! I’ll courier him a bottle if he wants! *grin* All in for RM 40.80 inclusive of a glass of Chinese tea. How come only a glass of drink I wonder? Can’t really remember though. Anyway, besides selling clay pot rice, they have a vast menu offering other dishes if you are not too keen on clay pot stuffs. Everyone enjoyed the meal and I’ll be coming back again, for sure!

I am a frequent customer there since working nearby and it is really as good as you can feel from the photo above, but noodle wise still have room of improvement 🙂

@naomiyube ~ I must agree that their clay pot rice is aromatic with nice rice texture. I just drove by a few days back to see if they are still around knowing that eateries come and go in such a short period nowadays! Glad they are still there! 😉
