We decided to eat out instead of cooking at home on this Winter Solstice Festival (冬至) and at the same time I want to give Cat a treat since her b’day is around the corner. She suggested 8 Road Restaurant in Puchong which offers good and tasty food.
Typical Chinese restaurant setup as seen but clean with fully tiled flooring and air-conditioned.
Shark Fin with Crab Meat (蟹王魚翅) @ RM 15.00 (single serving) ~Worst shark fin T has ever tasted. I tried and totally agree with her!
Marmite Pork Ribs (妈蜜排骨) @ RM 25.00 (Medium) ~ This was good! Nice amount of marmite & honey imparted on the succulent pork ribs.
Braised Luffa with Bean curd (絲瓜豆腐) @ RM 15.00 ~ Luffa is soft and mildly sweet combined well with the bland bean curd. The gravy compliments both.
Claypot Curry Squid (煲仔咖哩鮮魷) @ RM 38.00 ~ Ordered this dish specially for BIL coz he’s a squid lover! Cooked to perfection and not at all rubbery! Generous amount of eggplant and ocra came with this lovely pot of curry claypot squid.
Stir-fry Kangkung Belacan (马来风光) @ RM 12.00 ~ Crunchy, spicy and the scent of belacan (shrimp paste) is strong. Tastes well!
Steamed Silver Catfish (清蒸白苏公) @ RM 51.00 (850g) ~ This was fresh and sweet but way overpriced! We can normally get this for less than RM 35.00 of the same serving.
Signature Steamed Kampung Chicken (招牌蒸菜园鸡) @ RM 40.00 (Large) ~ This is the signature dish of the restaurant. The bright yellow skin makes it look delicious. Fragrant and meat was tender, not tough even being “kampung” chicken. Good and tasty! Live up to its “signature” claim.
Special homemade sauce for the chicken consists of ginger and chopped parsley.
Claypot Bean curd Soup (煲仔豆腐羹) @ RM 15.00 ~ Mom’s favourite! Rather good and were definitely better than the shark fin soup!
Buddha’s Yam Ring (佛钵) @ RM 23.00 ~ Another disappointment! Yam ring was soft, wet and soggy. It just crumbled the minute we scoop on it. Luckily the accompanying stir fried stuffs made up to it!
