Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh (兴记肉骨茶) @ Jaya One, Petaling Jaya

When one mentions BKT in Petaling Jaya, the 1st name that usually pops up would be the PJ old town Heng Kee. Today we visited a newly opened Heng Kee BKT (兴记肉骨茶) branch, the no. 9 outlet (第九分行) but this outlet has nothing to do with the one in PJ old town. Coincidentally, they only share the same name! This HK is so much cleaner and in a nicer environment than the one in PJ old town but let’s see if the standard of food is as good or even better…

Heng Kee BKT (9th) outlet (兴记肉骨茶/第九分行) offers an a/c section and also an al-fresco for smokers. Rosewood chairs and marble tables are solely used in this neat and tidy restaurant.

Simple menu but offers quite a good number of bak kut teh varieties.

Deep fried crullers (油条), birdseye chilies in thick soy sauce and garlic is a must when savouring a good bowl of BKT! They named it the “Three Musketeers” (三剑客) of BKT!

Yuen Kuat/Soft bone (软骨)@ RM 12.50/pax ~ The tender and succulent pork meat is well cooked but the soup is pretty light in colour as compared to some other BKT soup, especially the Klang version which is much thicker. As such, it has a milder taste of the typical Chinese herbs. Button mushrooms and a few Chinese coriander leaves completes the bowl. Tasty enough to get an 8/10!

Pie Yoke (小子骨) @ RM 12.50/pax ~ Again, this piece of meat is rather tender as it drops off the bone the minute I tried chewing on it. Not much effort required to enjoy this part of the pork meat but a thicker version of the soup will perfect it! Recommended! An 8/10!

Chee Chang/elbow (豬肘) @ RM 12.50/pax ~ This  dry version of BKT is served with cuts of tender lean pork meat with good layer of fats! Very sinful but who cares as long as it’s tasty! Well, you don’t consume it everyday now, do you? Eat 1st, think later! Tasty and the gravy is savoury! A 9/10!

Blanched Chinese lettuce (炉玻璃生菜) @ RM 7.00 (small) ~ Fresh but the sauce was overly sweet! A 3/10!

Totaled @ RM 57.95 inclusive of 3 large plain rice (RM 4.50), 1 small plain rice (RM 1.20) and 5% service charge (RM 2.76). Even though this place doesn’t serve the thicker Klang version BKT which I like but the clear soup version is rather ok for a change. The chef should infuse more Chinese herbs into the soup but not too overwhelming of course!

I would say it’s very affordable by the standard of the food which is better and the environment of the restaurant is definitely cleaner and more comfortable than the one in PJ old town. Parking is aplenty @ RM 2.00 per hour. Well worth it!

The staffs are very friendly and efficient too. One even offered to replace my bowl of rice which has gone cold over time as I was busy taking photos! Very observant and attentive!  Keep it up! The next time when Heng Kee BKT is mentioned, it’ll definitely be this one, tastier and cleaner outlet in Jaya One!
