Restoran N.T. Cheang Kee (璋记饭店) @ Nibong Tebal, Seberang Prai, Penang

Our crave for good hawker food hit our mind again so we decided to do a pre Hari Raya break to Penang. It’s really a good time to travel since the holidays is another week away. Traffic & crowds would be minimum and even the hotel rates are much lower.

We started our journey at around 1430 and reached Nibong Tebal at around 7+ due to a traffic crawl (road resurfaced) near Ipoh and the heavy downpour worsened it. Everyone was hungry and we decided to make a stop in NT at this restaurant we favor for it’s delicious food, Cheang Kee.

This is my 1st visit to this restaurant after they moved from Jalan Atas where they once operate, an old shack full of flies, also in NT. This new restaurant is so much better compared to the old one. CK is well known amongst the locals and travellers from outstation, like me.

Boiled Octopus (八爪鱼) @ RM 6.00 ~ Most people would stay away from this dish coz the tentacles of the octopus freaks them out. As for me, I loved it! Texture is crunchy, chewy, juicy and addictive. Boiled and sprinkled with deep fried onion and oil to add more aroma to it.

Dipping for the boiled octopus. Sourish chili sauce with grounded peanuts as topping really went well with the dish.

Bean curd with Minced Meat & Salted Fish (咸鱼肉碎豆腐) @ RM 10.00 ~ Japanese bean curd is smooth and the gravy with the salted fish is good. Kids liked it so much!

Stir-fry Flowering Garlic Chives with Mixed Vegetables (韮菜花炒杂) @ RM 10.00 ~ We made very sure with the captain that the chives is not old before placing our order and she assured us that young ones is use. Good wok hei (鑊氣) imparted in this simple yet delicious dish. Serving is a little small though.

Teochew Boiled Seaweed Soup (滚潮州紫菜汤) @ RM 6.00 ~ Tasted ok and the fish balls are springy. I’m not a fan though but it’s Cat’s favorite!

Curry Crab @ (咖喱螃蟹) RM 36.00 ~ This was good. The curry paste imparted on the crabs are marvelous! Delicious and recommended!

This very delicious meal cost us only RM 68.00. Rice is complimentary I reckoned coz I don’t see it anywhere in the bill.  The lady boss was kind enough to share with mom on the recipe and even sold 2 bottles of the ingredient used in making the curry crab @ cost for RM 4.50 per bottle. We were a little full to order the famous crab porridge. It’s ok. There’s always a next time. CK is definitely a good place to enjoy a satisfying meal and one would never regret dropping by this gem in NT!
