Mama Kitchen (苏丹街瓦煲老鼠粉/蒲种分店) @ Bandar Puteri Puchong (Ceased Operation)

Ever heard or tasted the famous Jalan Sultan claypot loh shu fun? (苏丹街瓦煲老鼠粉/蒲种分店) I did but not in Bandar Puteri Puchong though. I heard they’ve setup 2 outlets with the name Mama Kitchen instead of the original Chinatown Seng Kee which has been around since 1983, the 1st in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail and the 2nd branch here in BPP. Since I’m in the neighborhood and it’s close to dinner time, we decided to try if this branch is serving their signature dish  as good as the one in town.

This branch is definitely much cleaner and more spacious while parking is aplenty unlike the one in Jalan Sultan, an area famous for the notorious traffic congestion and also a big challenge getting a parking. That’s one of the main reason I stopped patronizing that outlet.

Outlet has minimal decoration but comfy enough to enjoy a meal with the air-conditioners installed.

Stir-fry ocra with prawns in shrimp paste (马来盏炒虾球茄子) @ RM 19.00 (s/小)
~
Belacan paste infused into the ocras and decent size crunchy prawns. Very appetizing indeed.

Marmite spare ribs (妈蜜排骨) @ RM 15.00 ~ Succulent spare ribs caramalized with “too much” of Marmite resulting in being a little bitter. Not that bad but tried better ones.

Stir-fry clams in vinegar and bird eyes chillies  (酸醋辣椒子炒啦啦) @ RM 10.00 (s/小) ~ This was an off menu dish which we requested. Did not come close to the one we had in Ocean Batu Maung but the clams were fresh and we appreciate their effort in trying to meet our request.

Famous Jalan Sultan Claypot Loh Shu Fun (驰名苏丹街瓦煲老鼠粉) @ RM 7.00 (s/小) ~ The loh shu fun which literally means rat’s tail as it resembles one is buried under the generous amount of minced meat and topped with a cracked raw egg before serving. After some digging and stirring, we discovered some prawns in it too. The thick black soy sauce is balanced nicely and the flavorful aroma is enough to get us going and scooping for more.

Steamed Tilapia in soy sauce (清蒸金凤鱼) @ RM 25.00 ~ Fish is fresh but the gravy was a little on the salty side but no big issue as it goes pretty well with our plain white rice.

This enjoying meal only came out to RM 84.90 with a pot of  Chinese tea (香片) @ RM 4.50 for 3 pax and 3 large rice (RM 3.60) and a small rice (RM 0.80). I don’t mind paying a little extra to savour the good dishes offered here and most of all, no headache of traffic and parking space! Will surely come again!
