Room Eighteen (拾八风味) @ Mid Valley Megamall

Whenever we drop by Mid Valley, we always set out early to avoid the crowd and the bad traffic, especially on weekends. Today was no different. As we were early, we thought of having breakfast before we start shopping around. As most  eateries operating hours are between 1030 to 1100  we have little choice but to settle for those who open their doors earlier. In this case, we chose Room 18, an outlet which was previously known as “Chopstick Noodle House”.

Twin BBQ Combo Rice (叉燒燒鴨飯) @ RM 12.80 ~ Ordered this for E and the bbq pork (叉燒) was dry & tough! Looked good through the glass display but was deceived! Roast duck was acceptable but nothing great! Mediocre! A 3/10!

Shanghai Dumpling (上海小籠包) @ RM 8.80 (4pcs) ~ Didn’t like the way it was wrapped as it reminded me of the elephant’s trunk! Do not judge a book by its cover, I thought. I tried my best to scoop the dumpling as gently as I could but the skin was securely stuck to the wax paper and gave way the minute we try lifting it, thus the soup spilt all over the basket! All four of them were the same! Skin was thick and filling was so so only. Soup? We hardly had chance to sip them! Disappointing! A 2/10!

BBQ pork with noodle (叉燒雲吞面) @ RM 11.80 ~ T’s plate of noodle is more acceptable as the bbq pork that came with it has more fats thus make it less tough. Noodle was ok but not springy enough to warrant a “good” from me and I thought it was a little overpriced. A 5/10!

Complete set of BBQ Pork Noodle with a bowl of w0nton soup (叉燒雲吞面). It came with a bowl of curry potato with fishballs at 1st and we have it exchanged. What a combination!

BBQ Pork Bun (叉燒寶) @ RM 4.80 (3 pcs) ~ Bun was fluffy and the pork filling is tasty. Not overly sweet. Just nice! An 8/10!

Pork Dumpling with Crab Roe (燒邁) @ RM 8.80 ~ This was good too as its texture gives a very nice mouth feel. Good but kinda overpriced! An 8/10!

Steamed Rice Roll with Fresh Prawn (蝦腸粉) @ RM 10.80 ~ Skin was smooth and the sauce came separately. DIY and pour the right amount according to your will. Prawns were not that crunchy and pretty small in size thus make it expensive. A 5/10!

Chinese Jasmine & Tie Kuan Yin (茉莉花/鐵觀音唐人茶) @ RM 2.00 each.

Room 18 is one of the many restaurants  under the Tai Thong stable. This outlet in Mid Valley operates under two sections. One with a/c and the other without. You may even dine alfresco as seen in the picture. Guess only “smokers” and those who can bear the heat would be interested  over the seatings out there!

This simple breakfast came to RM 65.00 after a 5% discount for using CIMB card. A 5%+10% is practiced here. This outlet should pay more attention to its bbq items as this are one of their specialties. Service without a smile except the lady manager is another thing they should seriously look into. Wouldn’t mind giving this place a miss though, “IF” I have other choices of restaurant to choose from.
